IPL 2025: Mumbai Indians retained players, released players and purse remaining ahead of mega auction

The joint-most successful franchise of the Indian Premier League, the Mumbai Indians, announced their list of retentions and released players on October 31, Thursday, ahead of the mega auction of the 2025 edition.

However, it hasn't been the smoothest of rides for the side in two of their past three seasons. The 2023 edition in which MI huffed and puffed their way to the playoffs only to get torn apart in second qualifier was flanked by two of their poorest seasons where they finished rock-bottom in the standings. 

MI had their first taste of silverware in 2013. That was the same season when Rohit Sharma took over the baton of captaincy from Ricky Ponting. From thereon, they have been victorious four more times. the 2019 and 2020 edition of the marquee tournament was when MI became the second franchise in the league to lift the title for consecutive seasons.

With Sri Lankan great, Mahela Jayawardane, returning to the setup as head coach after having previously held the position from 2017 and 2022 as well as Paras Mhambrey being incorporated in the mix as bowling coach who will be working alongside Lasith Malinga, MI would be aiming to make some valauble additions in their squad at the mega auction and give the 18th edition of the IPL a solid go and hopefully clinch the title for the record sixth time.
