Irani Cup 2024: Prithvi Shaw scores quickfire fifty against Rest of India

Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar claimed one wicket each before the end of second session.

On Day 4 of the Irani Cup 2024 match between Mumbai and the Rest of India at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, Prithvi Shaw, batting for Mumbai, scored a 37-ball fifty in the second innings. He reached his fifty is some style scoring boundary off Saransh Jain through a late cut. At Tea, Mumbai’s scorecard read 85 for two with a lead of 206 runs. 

Just before the Tea, the Rest of India managed to break the partnership between Shaw and Hardik Tamore. The duo had put up a 33-run stand for the second wicket before Tamore got dismissed scoring seven runs. Shaw remained unbeaten on 58 off 46, and he had Mumbai captain, Ajinkya Rahane to accompany him. Saransh Jain and Manav Suthar claimed one wicket each before the end of the second session.

Mumbai had scored 537 runs in the first innings and the Rest of India managed to come closer amassing 416 runs on the back of Abhimanyu Easwaran’s brilliant Ton. The right-handed batter scored 191 runs laced with 16 boundaries and one maximum. He was well supported by Dhruv Jurel, who scored 93 runs. For Mumbai, Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian dazzled with three wickets each, while Mohith Avasthi picked two wickets.

Mumbai had positioned them very well with over 500 runs on the board batting first, thanks to a splendid double-century by Sarfaraz Khan. The 26-year-old remained unbeaten on 222 complemented by 25 boundaries and four maximums. Rahane too looked in great rhythm but missed out on a century by three runs. Kotian contributed a well-made 64 runs batting down the order.
