IRE vs IND 2023: Ireland vs India, 1st T20I - Talking Points and Who Said What?
India won the match by two runs (via DLS Method).
Jaspirt Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna’s return to international cricket was a massive success as India managed to defeat Ireland by two runs (DLS method) in the first T20I of the series. After an embarrassing defeat at the hands of West Indies, there were pressure on the Men in Bblue but they dealt well. Despite so, there still remain a lot of areas to improve.
When it comes to Ireland, the batters struggled to get going. Batting at number eight, Barry McCarthy rescued them from an embarrassing defeat while Craig Young picked up two wickets, which could have jeopardized India’s victory in the first T20I. Nevertheless, the opening stand of 42 runs between Jaiswal and Gaikwad proved valuable as the visiting team won by a close margin.
Talking Points from the 1st T20I between Ireland and India:
Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna’s return
Both pacers looked fit in the middle but they still have some rust. Bumrah particularly was struggling with his pace and that’s a worrying sign at the moment. However, it is expected to get better when the pacer plays more games in the coming times. Meanwhile, both picked two wickets each, which will boost their confidence.
Barry McCarthy special in Dubin
Despite losing a lot of wickets initially, Ireland didn’t give up as Barry McCarthy played a very special knock in Dubin. His 51* runs off 33 deliveries not only helped Ireland bounce back but could have been match-winning if the bowlers could have given a slightly better start.
Winning Captain and Player of the Match Jasprit Bumrah said:
Felt very good, so many sessions I did at the NCA, didn't feel I missed out a lot or was doing something new. Credit to the staff, they kept me in good spirits. You are not thinking about yourself, you are thinking about others out there. Not really nervous but very happy. There was some swing upfront so we wanted to use it. Luckily we won the toss and it was coming out fine. There was some help due to the weather, so very happy. In every game, you would want more. After a crisis, they played well, credit where it is due. Even when you win, there are areas to improve on. Everybody is very confident, they are very well prepared. I think the IPL also helps. It is always good, wherever we go, they support us, that helps us to keep the spirit high.
