As India gears up for the ICC T20 World Cup in June this year in the USA and Caribbean, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has given his take on the 15-member squad he believes can bring the coveted trophy home. Pathan was a vital cog in India's triumphant 2007 campaign, where he won the Player of the Match award in the final for his all-round heroics under MS Dhoni's captaincy.
The T20 World Cup follows immediately after the IPL 2024, providing a perfect platform for players to get their place on the squad. While stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Hardik Pandya are automatic picks, there are some positions still up for grabs, according to Pathan.

Irfan Pathan insists on picking Mohsin Khan in the squad
Batting remains India's strength, with Pathan emphasising Kohli's importance. "Kohli is vital in a big tournament," Pathan said on ESPNcricinfo show Timeout. The big bone of contention is the wicket-keeper's role, with Rishabh Pant returning from a serious injury and Jitesh Sharma impressing but lacking experience. KL Rahul's versatility makes him a contender too.
In the bowling department, Pathan stressed the importance of a left-arm pacer. He insisted on picking Mohsin Khan ahead of Arshdeep Singh. Mohsin has been exceptional for LSG despite injuries. The other seamers he had on his list were the reliable Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
Pathan rounds off his squad with the spin twins of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi, along with Ravindra Jadeja's all-round abilities.
