Legendary Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan has been hospitalised for surgery after being stabbed by a sharp object during a burglary attempt at his home in Bandra, Mumbai, in the early hours of Thursday, January 16. Saif is an avid cricket fan and is also the co-owner of the 'Tiigers of Kolkata' franchise in the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL).

According to a statement by the Mumbai Police, the suspect entered Saif's residence at approximately 2:30 am and got involved in a war of words with a member of the household staff. When Saif intervened to pacify the situation, the intruder attacked him. The actor was left with six injuries. Two of them were severe, with one dangerously close to his spine.

"Saif has six stabs and two are deep. Of this one is close to spine. He is being operated upon by a team of doctors led neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr Leena Jain and anaesthesiologist Dr Nisha Gandhi. The surgery is still going on. He sustained six injuries, two are minor, two intermediate and two deep injuries, one of the injuries is on the back which is close to spine. A neurosurgeon is involved in the surgery," Lilavati Hospital's COO Dr Niraj Uttamani was quoted as saying by OneCricket.

However, as per the latest reports, the renowned actor's surgery was claimed to be successful by the doctors and he was currently out of danger. Besides, Saif has acted in several iconic movies in Bollywood like 'Kal Ho Na Ho', 'Love Aaj Kal', 'Hum Tum', and 'Omkara', among others. He is married to popular actress Kareena Kapoor and the couple have two children - Taimur and Jeh. Saif was recently seen in 'Devara: Part 1'.

Meanwhile, Saif and Kareena's official PR team earlier wrote a message to the media and fans. After the unfortunate incident, the team of the stars requested their patience. Moreover, they also stated that the further course of action regarding the matter was subjected to further investigations by the police authorities.

"There was an attempted burglary at Mr Saif Ali Khan’s residence. He is currently in hospital undergoing surgery. It is a police matter, and we request patience from the media and fans," the message said.
