'It is not something I thought I would do' - Tammy Beaumont reveals raw emotions after historic century in The Hundred tournament
Beaumont notched up the highest-ever individual total in the tournament's history, men or women.
England opener Tammy Beaumont's heroic innings of 118 off 61 balls not only helped her team to secure a significant victory against Trent Rockets but also etched her name in the annals of cricket history. This staggering score now stands as the highest-ever in The Hundred, surpassing Will Jacks's previous record of 108. Beaumont's innings also marked numerous moments as the first century by a woman in The Hundred.
Welsh Fire's imposing total of 181/3, brilliantly contributed by Beaumont, overshadowed previous records including Southern Brave's 166 against the same team two years ago. This milestone victory helped Welsh Fire to return back to the summit of the table, signaling their strong contention for knockout qualification.
"It is not something I thought I would do, particularly as this season I have not got past 50 – let alone 100," Beaumont was quoted as saying by Dai Sports.
Under Jon Lewis' guidance, Beaumont has shown significant improvement as a player, as he challenged her to reinvent her game. The significance of Beaumont's achievement was amplified by the jubilant home crowd at Sophia Gardens.
"For two seasons of The Hundred, they have had to endure some poor cricket from the men and the women here, so we are really keen to put on a show and get more people into cricket in Wales," Beaumont acknowledged, emphasizing the collective effort behind her triumph.
Trent Rockets, valiantly chasing the big target, found themselves ultimately unable to breach the formidable score set by Welsh Fire. The Rockets' effort, led by opener Bryony Smith's rapid 48 off 21 balls, highlighted their fighting spirit but was insufficient to reach the target.
Tammy Beaumont's iconic innings stand tall as a testament to her power of perseverance and determination. With her awe-inspiring batting display, she has not only etched her name in cricketing history but has also got huge appreciation from cricket fans and analysts.
