'It made the rest of the team rocket ahead' - Matthew Hayden extols Rohit Sharma's rampaging knock vs SRH
Rohit's 70 (46) propelled MI to an emphatic triumph with 26 deliveries to spare.
Rohit Sharma starred with the bat during Mumbai Indian's seven-wicket triumph against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday, April 23. The former MI skipper, coming in as an Impact Player, starred with a hard-hitting 70-run effort off just 46 deliveries in an innings which comprised eight fours and three sixes.
Former Australian cricketer, Matthew Hayden, listed the various attributes Rohit's majestic knock possessed.
"It was an excellent and well-measured innings. There was power, but more than anything, it was about his tempo. He knew he had a moderate total to chase. When you look at the seven-wicket victory, Mumbai Indians had plenty in the tank. It was a very emphatic and confident win, something Sunrisers Hyderabad clearly lacked. Rohit's innings had vision, stability, and perfect timing. It made the rest of the team rocket ahead," Hayden said on JioHotstar.
In the same discussion, former Indian cricketer, Piyush Chawla, shed light on Rohit coming back to form in addition to Hardik Pandya's great run this season.
"Earlier, there were concerns about Rohit Sharma not scoring runs, but in the last two games, he has stepped up. Hardik Pandya is in great form, both with the bat and ball, which gives him a lot of confidence and that reflects in his captaincy as well,” noted Chawla.
Rohit's 70 agaist SRH came a few days after a belligerent 76-run knock against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. He had secured the Player of the Match accolade for his match-defining knock aganinst MI's arch-rivals.
Need to stop overthinking and focus on own game: Hayden
As far as MI are concerned, their victory against the runners-up of the previous edition was their fourth in a row. They had a really poor start to the season. However, the joint-successful side of the IPL seems to have found their mojo. Rohit & Co. are scheduled to take on Lucknow Super Giants at home on Sunday, April 27. The match is scheduled to commence at 7:30 pm (IST).
