'It'd be great to see him get a hundred in front of his home crowd' - Glenn McGrath speaks up on David Warner's last Test appearance

In a heartfelt message ahead of David Warner's final Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), the former Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath has shared some advice with the veteran opener. As Warner gears up for his 112th and last Test cap against Pakistan starting on January 3, McGrath encouraged him to stay true to his attacking style and play fearlessly until the very end.

Interestingly enough, the 'Pigeon' reflected back on his own retirement from Test cricket at the SCG in 2007 while giving his inputs on Warner's farewell game. McGrath emphasized the importance of leaving the pitch without regrets. Moreover, he revealed that he only cared about giving his all while on the field without thinking much about the stats and performance on the given day.

"You've been retired for a long time. When I played, I think my only concern was what would happen if I left the pitch at the end of the day without having given it my all," McGrath was quoted as saying by One Cricket.

Notably, David Warner's impressive Test career has spanned a huge 111-Test match experience since his debut in 2011. The veteran has seemingly silenced his critics and stands as Australia's highest-scoring opener in Test history, accumulating 8695 runs at an impressive average of 44.6. In McGrath's words of encouragement, he urged Warner to embrace his signature style. Besides, drawing from his own experience of retiring alongside Shane Warne and Justin Langer in 2007, Glenn McGrath highlighted the joy of playing without fear and leaving the field with immense self-belief.

"Go out, be positive. In Perth, we watched him come out and score a solid hundred overs, simply returning to his playing style. Hopefully, he can go out on a high. It'd be great to see him get a hundred here in front of his home crowd," McGrath added while expressing hope for a memorable farewell for the southpaw.

As David Warner bids farewell to Test cricket, Cricket Australia CEO, Nick Hockley, commended the explosive opener for his remarkable contribution to the sport. Furthermore, Hockley also lauded him for entertaining cricket fans all around the world with his attacking style of batting.

Fascinatingly, David Warner's farewell Test coincides with the 16th edition of the Pink Test at the SCG, with all proceeds dedicated to the McGrath Foundation, a charitable initiative supporting breast cancer patients. Glenn McGrath urges cricket fans to unite in pink by participating in the Virtual Pink Seat campaign during the Test which is slated to start on January 3.
