It’s a bit of shame that we haven’t seen Spencer Johnson a bit earlier: Josh Hazlewood
Australia will play their first T20I game against South Africa on August 30 at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground.
Star Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood expressed his joy after Spencer Johnson produced impressive performances in The Hundred Men's tournament. Johnson is set to make his international debut for Australia in the T20I series against South Africa which is set to be played from August 30.
Hazlewood lauded Johnson's performances, stating he is a very natural bowler. The 31-year-old added that he has been excellent in the last year.
"He just looks so natural with his action and pretty easy pace that he gets. Where’s he been all these years? It’s a bit of a shame that we haven’t seen him a bit earlier, but he’s probably feeling that as well. He’s been outstanding the last six to twelve months," Hazlewood was quoted as saying by foxsports.com.au.
Spencer’s on the radar for all formats: Bailey
George Bailey, Former Australia batter and Australian chief selector, was full of praise for Spencer Johnson and he sees the 27-year-old as an all-format player. The 40-year-old also stated that the team will observe his performances in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa.
"Spencer’s on the radar for all formats. He’s a really exciting talent … it is always nice when you’ve got someone bowling left arm for whatever reason. It’s just a little bit different and can add some variety to your attack. First and foremost, we’ll get a really good look at him in the T20 series, which is probably the format that he’s played the most. He’s one that we’re keen to invest a bit of time into," Bailey said.
Australia will play their first T20I game against South Africa on August 30 at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground. Following the three-match T20I series, Australia will also play three ODIs against South Africa. The Kangaroos will then travel to India for another three-match ODI series before the all-important ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
