'It's an entire star cast' - Aakash Chopra impressed with SRH's bowling arsenal ahead of IPL 2023
SRH will start their campaign against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, April 2 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra has showered praise on Sunrisers Hyderabad's bowling attack ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League set to begin on March 31. SRH will start their campaign in the IPL schedule against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, April 2, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Chopra was delighted to see the star-studded bowling pedigree of SRH. At the mini-auction held in December, Hyderabad bought international stars such as Adil Rashid (INR 2 crore) and Akeal Hosein (INR 1 crore). They also bought the services of Harry Brook (INR 13.25 Crore), Mayank Agarwal (INR 8.25 Crore), and Heinrich Klaasen (INR 5.25 Crore).
"This team's bowling - it is an entire star cast. Fast bowlers - plenty of them - Fazalhaq Farooqi, Marco Jansen, Kartik Tyagi, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan. In spinners, they have Mayank Markande, Akeal Hosein, Washington Sundar and Adil Rashid,” said Chopra on the ‘AakashVani’ show on JioCinema.
The 45-year-old further said their bowling is their strength, and they’re the only team to play an all-India bowling attack.
"The fast-bowling unit and the overall bowling unit is looking very, very good. Their bowling is their strength because they are probably the only team in the tournament that can play an all-India bowling attack,” Chopra added.
Chopra opined that they could field an entire fast bowling unit comprising Indian players and could include Adil Rashid as an attacking option.
"If they want, they can go with Adil Rashid. Otherwise, if you want to go with four fast bowlers and a spinner, the entire fast bowling can be made up of Indian bowlers, which will have T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umran Malik and Kartik Tyagi. All four are capable of playing in the XI,” said Chopra.
The cricketer-turned-commentator also said that Hyderabad could also include three Indian seamers in their playing XI alongside South Africa’s Marco Jansen. He further suggested that the team can also get a few overs from Washington Sundar and captain Aiden Markram. Markram has been handed over the captaincy duties for the 2023 edition after Kane Williamson was released from the team in 2022.
"You can play three out of the four, and then you can play a spinner in the form of Washington Sundar, who also bats, and then Marco Jansen and a little bowling from Aiden Markram. Abhishek Sharma also bowls a little left-arm spin,” Chopra added.
