Ever since Kolkata Knight Riders signed Mitchell Starc for INR 24.75 crore, the pacer was the centre point of all discussions. He didn’t start well in the tournament, which only put him under more pressure but the pacer was never bothered about all the criticism. On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed Pat Cummins for INR 20.50 crore, which also drew criticism as he was earning much more than top Indian stars.

Opening up about the salary and the criticism, Starc stated they laughed about it as the duo went on to play the final. Starc proved to be a big match player, guiding KKR to success in Qualifier 1 and in the final while Cummins led by example and took Hyderabad to the summit clash for the first time in six years. Speaking about the same, Starc jokingly added how they went on from two overpriced players to play in the final.

“Did laugh. So first game of the IPL, we played Hyderabad. So Paddy and I both got paid a fair bit, played first game, had a bit of a laugh about it. Just so happens we play each other nine weeks later in the final. And all of a sudden it's gone from, oh, they've paid overs for these two. These two are now playing a final. Funny that,” Starc said on Willow Talk Cricket Podcast.

IPL Final presentation didn't start until midnight & basically killed the vibe: Starc

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets on the night of the final. The game ended early which was not expected and it delayed the post-match presentation. Speaking about the same, Starc stated that the delay killed the vibe and he hilariously added how Angkrish Raghuvanshi joked about his IPL salary being more than the cash prize.

“So game finished at 10pm presentation hasn't even started by midnight. So we're like, killed the vibe already sitting down and young young Anki who's our number three, he's like they see the winner's cheques come over team get 20 crore for winning the final he goes it's not even what you got paid,” Starc said.
