'I’ve not beaten India in a Test series yet' - Pat Cummins eager to tick another box in Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Australian skipper Pat Cummins has his sights set on tasting victory against India in a Test series for the first time. The two powerhouses of world cricket are set to square off next month with the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy being on the line. The high-profile series gets underway on November 22 with the first Test being held in Perth.

Cummins was a part of the Australian side which lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to India in 2017. Since then, the silverware has remained with the Asian giants. However, Cummins and Co. have a chance to reclaim the trophy to assert their dominance in world cricket. The legendary fast bowler has won several important titles during his illustrious playing career. The Ashes, ODI World Cup, T20 World Cup, and the World Test Championship are some of the most significant titles won by the 31-year-old. Now, he wants to add the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to his cabinet.

"I was thinking about it the other day. It’s close to the only thing I haven’t really ticked off. I’ve not beaten India in a Test series yet. A few of the guys have, but I haven’t," Cummins said during an event, as quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald. The talismanic cricketer lost two encounters as the captain of the Australian side in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series.

Cummins, who was appointed as the captain in late 2021, opened up about his leadership responsibility and how he gradually eased into the role.

"My whole life, you look up to the Australian captain and you know who it is, and you’re like ‘oh wow, they’re so accomplished, and they must have all their shit together. And then suddenly when you are captain, you’re like ‘oh, I’m going to be that type of person. In the initial phases, it was awesome that I had loads of support, and those who had to make the decision chose me and thought I was up for it before I even knew I was myself, I suppose," Cummins said.

The right-arm pacer has an excellent record in Tests versus India. In 13 matches, the Westmead-born has scalped 50 wickets at an average of 26.18. He will look to help Australia regain possession of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a long wait.
