Jaiswal, Sarfaraz and Jurel have everything that is required to be a top player for India: Rohit Sharma
India's two-match Test series against Bangladesh will begin on September 19.
India captain Rohit Sharma expects Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel to succeed for India in all three formats of the game. Notably, Jaiswal has been phenomenal for the national team, particularly in Test cricket as he is currently the second-leading run-scorer in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle. He registered 1028 runs in nine matches at an average of 68.53, which is phenomenal, to say the least.
Sarfaraz and Jurel, on the other hand, were incredible for India in their last Test series against England. Courtesy of the same, both the cricketers have been called up for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh, but their place in the playing XI is not guaranteed after KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant made their return.
Nevertheless, Rohit expects them to be top players for India in the future and wants them to use the current phase to learn and grow. He noted that all three players are clear about their goals and are hungry to do well for India.
“You don’t need to speak too much to them. They are very new to Test cricket - Jaiswal, Jurel and Sarfaraz. We saw glimpses of what they can do with the bat. Jurel especially with the gloves behind the stumps as well. So, they have everything that is required to be a top player for India in all three formats,” Rohit said in the press conference.
“With time, we have to have to nurture them, groom them and keep talking to them, which we will do. I think they are very clear about what they want to do. They are very hungry to play cricket for India and they are hungry for success as well,” he added.
We have a mix of fearless, cautious and responsible players: Rohit
Rohit explained that Jaiswal, Sarfaraz and Jurel are fearless, cautious and responsible as well and talked about their impact in the last series against England. All three cricketers were very effective and helped India win the series 4-1.
“Jaiswal had a great series when we played last time (against England). Jurel showed what he is capable of with the bat. Getting those runs under pressure and in tough situations. Sarfaraz as well - being fearless, not worrying too much about what happens outside of it. You need all kinds of players in your squad these days. You need all sorts of players who are fearless, who are cautious and at the same time, responsible as well and I think we have a mix of everything, which is a good sign,” the 37-year-old said.
