Jake Fraser-McGurk signs four-year deal with Melbourne Renegades
Fraser smacked 257 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 158.64 in the ongoing BBL.
Melbourne Renegades secured the signature of breakout star Jake Fraser-McGurk on a four-year contract in the Big Bash League. Notably, the 21-year-old smacked 257 runs in nine matches at a strike rate of 158.64 in the ongoing BBL and is currently the seventh-leading run-scorer of the season.
Meanwhile, Fraser-McGurk had a terrific end to 2023 as he hit the fastest-ever one-day hundred from just 29 balls for the South Australian Redbacks in the Marsh Cup. His form continued in the BBL as well, which has earned him a new contract with the Renegades. The right-handed batter was thrilled after signing and stated that it was an easy decision for him to make.
“I’m thrilled to re-sign with the Renegades, it was an easy decision for me and to be part of the club’s future is really exciting. I’ve made some great mates here, I love being part of this playing group. With ‘Finchy’ (Aaron Finch) and ‘Marshy’ (Shaun Marsh) now moving on, it’s a changing of the guard, and I want to keep contributing to what is a really talented young group moving forward,” he was quoted as saying by Fox Cricket.
“I feel I’ve taken real strides this year as a batter, the Renegades have given me an opportunity to express myself out in the middle and it’s paying off. Hopefully, in the next couple of seasons those contributions can translate to more wins and we can have another crack at a second title,” he added.
Courtesy of his recent heroics, he has gained global recognition as he is set to play for Dubai Capitals in the second edition of ILT20. He will travel to the United Arab Emirates after his BBL commitments as the Renegades are slated to play their last league game on January 17 against Sydney Thunder. The game will also mark the end of Shaun Marsh’s professional career, as he announced of retiring from cricket after the final league game.
