'Jalti pe tel dalna, tweet pe tweet karna, just don't do it' - Wasim Akram urges India, Pakistan fans to stay away from harmful trolling
Wasim Akram has urged Indian and Pakistani fans to maintain neutrality instead of harmful trolling on social media.
Pace legend Wasim Akram has expressed his disappointment as he reacted to the latest social media battle between Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammed Shami after Pakistan suffered a five-wicket loss in the T20 World Cup 2022 final against England at the MCG on Sunday, November 13.
Wasim has urged the cricket lovers of both India and Pakistan to be neutral instead of adding salt to each others’ wounds whenever they lose big matches like these.
We should stay neutral: Wasim Akram
“We should stay neutral. Indians are patriotic about their their country, and I'm fine with that, we are patriotic about our country. But instead of that, jalti pe tel daalna, tweet pe tweet karna, just don't do it man,” said Akram while speaking on A Sports.
Meanwhile, former skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, who was also one of the panelists, seconded the 1992 World Cup winner’s opinion and said that Indians and Pakistani cricket fans should mutually respect each others’ opinions and not indulge in such practices just for getting a few likes.
“You shouldn't do this just for the sake of few 'Likes'. Cricketers, whether from India or Pakistan or any other country, we are all a family. So we should respect each other and give our opinions respectfully. We also have a certain responsibility," he said.
It so happened that after Pakistan’s loss, Shoaib Akhtar took to his official Twitter handle and posted a few broken heart emojis. Moments later, senior India pacer Mohammed Shami came forward and wrote, “Hello brother, it’s call karma”. Even Shami went on to post those same heartbroken emojis.
Nonetheless, Shoaib did not shy away from giving it back. He posted a tweet of veteran broadcaster Harsha Bhogle praising the Pakistani bowlers for fighting hard despite defending a modest total of 137 in a World Cup final and pointed Shami saying, “And this what you call sensible tweet..”.
