Jason Roy set to miss Pakistan tour and upcoming T20 World Cup

The England team are scheduled for their first tour of Pakistan since 2005 and it has come to light that the management has apparently decided to move on from the struggling opening batter, Jason Roy. The news gets even worse for the Englishman as it is believed he is no longer in plans for England's upcoming T20 World Cup campaign.

The national team's T20I squad for the tour of Pakistan will be announced on Friday, 2nd September, with Moeen Ali leading the side in the absence of the injured Jos Buttler, who is hopeful for a return to the team later in the series. However, Jason Roy, who has struggled for runs throughout the English summer, has reportedly informed his Oval Invincibles teammates about his omission from the national team for the Pakistan tour, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

The 32-year-old has been one of the mainstays of the English white-ball setup since the 2015 World Cup and was one of the most trusted players for the recently retired English skipper Eoin Morgan. His prolific exploits and fearless cricket at the top of the order was one of the major driving forces behind England's success at the 2019 World Cup.

But, unfortunately, for the right-hander, his miserable slump has prolonged even after a woeful summer with the national team as the explosive batter has struggled for runs in the Hundred, commencing his campaign with three ducks in four innings and has registered 51 runs at an abysmal average of 8.50. 

His domestic opening partner Will Jacks has captivated the viewers with his batting prowess and is on the selector's radar to replace his senior opening partner. Another opening batter who will be on the list to replace Roy is Phil Salt, who made his T20I debut for England earlier this year. The 26-year-old has been in swashbuckling form in The Hundred and is the second leading run-scorer in the tournament with 313 runs to his name.

England's red-ball skipper Ben Stokes is another high-profile player who is likely to miss the upcoming tour due to his commitment switch towards the Test team as the ongoing South Africa Test series will conclude just days before the white-ball team leaves for the subcontinent.
