‘Just play your game’ - Sunil Gavaskar backs India to post huge total against Australia in World Cup final
"Just play your game, watch the ball, and concentrate on the next one. With the kind of form batting India are in, if they get off to a good start," Sunil Gavaskar said.
The stage is all set for the final of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 as India take on Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. The Men in Blue will be coming into the game on the back of a winning run; the side has yet to lose a game in the World Cup 2023, and they will look to maintain their winning run.
Ahead of the clash, many pundits came forward to provide their take on the game. Former Indian batter Sunil Gavaskar joined the fray as well. The legendary former batter opined that Team India should stick to their game plan and not try to do anything different.
Gavaskar also stated that openers Rohit and Shubman Gill should stick to their original play style, and if they are able to provide the side with a good start, then a big score could be quite a possibility in the final.
"Just play your game, watch the ball, and concentrate on the next one. With the kind of form batting India are in, if they get off to a good start, a 300-plus total is on the cards. I know this is a big ground, hitting sixes won't be easy but as we've seen before, it is difficult to stop this Indian batting unit, if they are off to a great start," Sunil Gavaskar said on the pre-match show on Star Sports.
India look to post big total as Australia field first
Speaking of the summit clash of the World Cup, India got off to a subpar start as the side lost the toss. Australian skipper Pat Cummins opted to bowl first and provided the Men in Blue with the opportunity to post a big total on the board.
Being unbeaten in the tournament, India will once again depend on their top order to propel them to a big total in the first innings and potentially go all the way and win the title.
