The Indian Women’s cricket team have reached the semi-final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team beat Ireland in their last group fixture by five runs (DLS Method) and confirmed their spot in the semi-final, finishing second in the Group B points table with three wins in four matches.
However, recently a Google search by a fan for ‘Indian Cricket team captains’ sparked a controversy as the search results only showed the men’s captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya. Reacting to that, former cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina extended their support to the women’s skipper Harmanpreet.
"If we've created this problem, we also have the power to fix it. Let's do it for women's cricket! Use this hashtag: #IndianCricketTeamCaptainHarmanpreetKaur on #Twitter #Quora #LinkedIn and #Reddit to spread the word and make a difference!” Yuvraj tweeted.
Suresh Raina also came in the support of Harmanpreet and asked people to join the movement. "Join the movement. post the video on Twitter, LinkedIn, Linkedin or Reddit with #IndianCricketTeamCaptainHarmanpreetKaur," he tweeted.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir also joined the movement on Thursday, February 23 and extended support to the Indian women’s captain. “It’s time to change! Let’s do it! #IndianCricketTeamCaptainHarmanpreetKaur,” Gambhir wrote on Twitter.
