The Maharashtra Legislative Council recently unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday congratulating the Indian cricket team for their spectacular victory in the T20 Cricket World Cup 2024. This historic win marks the end of India's 17-year drought in the T20 World Cup and an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy.

The resolution, read out by Council's Deputy Chairperson Neelam Gorhe, celebrates India's nail-biting seven-run victory over South Africa in the final match on June 29. This triumph showed India's cricketing brilliance and ignited a sense of unity and jubilation across the nation.

The journey home for the victorious team was not without drama. Hurricane Beryl's impact led to the closure of Barbados airport, leaving the team temporarily stranded. Rising to the occasion, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah arranged a special Air India flight to bring the champions and accompanying media personnel back to India.

The Maharashtra Legislative Council's resolution reflects the sentiment of millions of Indians eagerly awaiting this moment of glory. It acknowledges the team's hard work, dedication, and the joy their success has brought to fans across the country.

Batting first, India posted a competitive total of 176/7, largely thanks to Virat Kohli's masterful 59-ball 76. Despite early setbacks, partnerships between Kohli and Axar Patel (47 off 31), followed by Shivam Dube (27 off 16), steered India to a challenging score.

South Africa's chase was a roller-coaster ride, with Heinrich Klaasen's quick-fire 52 threatening to snatch the game away. However, India's death bowling, led by Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, proved decisive in restricting South Africa to 169/8, securing a memorable victory.
