Ace pacer Mark Wood has been ruled out of professional cricket for at least four months due to ligament damage to his left knee. The knee discomfort has been a prolonged issue for the English cricketer now, but the situation spiraled further during the ICC Champions Trophy clash between England and Afghanistan.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed a ligament damage to his knee after certain scans and surgery have solidified the injury claims. The board further told that he is set to miss the start of the English summer and might miss a part of the upcoming Test series against India, commencing June 21. Wood will now be working alongside the medical team for further recovery and rehabilitation.

Naturally, the pacer has been disappointed in disbelief to be spending time away from cricket, and will not be taking part in any format for the time being.

“I’m gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year. But I’ve got every confidence that I’ll be back firing on all cylinders now that I’ve been able to sort my knee out," said Wood via ECB.

“I want to thank the surgeon, the doctors, staff, my England teammates and coaches for their support - and, of course, our fans. I can’t wait to get back and contribute to what is going to be a huge 2025 for us as a team,” he added.

Which IPL team is Mark Wood playing for?

The English speedster did not register for the IPL Mega Auction ahead of the 2025 edition. His name did not appear in the list of 576 players who were in the final shortlist presented by the IPL Committee. As a result, he will not be a part of any team in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament. Notably, Wood has represented teams like Lucknow Super Giants in the past.
