Just like last year, Pakistan has appointted Matthew Hayden as a support staff member for the T20 World Cup. Last year, the former Australian opener had the same role and will once again join the team as the team mentor. The 50-year-old will be the team mentor and work with head coach Saqlain Mushtaq and others in the T20 World Cup.

The two-time World Cup winner is scheduled to join the Men in Green on 15th of october in Brisbane. He will join the squad after the tri-series in New Zealand which includes the host nation along with Bangladesh.

Given the tournament is scheduled to happen in Australia, Hayden’s contribution can be a massive factor for Pakistan’s success in the tournament. In the last T20 World Cup, Pakistan qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament but was shown the door by Australia. With the team in form this year, they would eye for their second T20 World Cup triumph.

I think this Pakistan side has got what it takes to excel in Australia: Matthew Hayden

After displaying some quality cricket in the Asia Cup, Pakistan team will come to Australia with a lot of confidence. Even though the final is yet to be played against Sri Lanka, Pakistan have shown that they have got enough depth in both the aspects of the game. This will eventually help the Men in Green in Australia as the conditions will not be very common to them.

Hayden, who knows the Australian conditions very well, believes that the team has got the strength to excel in Australia. He also spoke about the privilege of being a part of the set-up for the T20 World Cup.

“I am with the Pakistan team as their mentor for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia and can’t wait to join the culture again and feel the spirit of One Nation One Passion,” said the Aussie legend.

He added, “I have seen how Pakistan have been performing in the ACC T20 Asia Cup and Sunday’s win over India was brilliant.I think this Pakistan side has got what it takes to excel in Australia and the conditions will really suit them, both from a batting and bowling perspective. This team has all of its bases covered and I am sure it will light up the World Cup as it did in the UAE last year. I feel privileged to be given an opportunity to pass on all my experience and knowledge about all conditions in Australia and can’t wait to be back in the Pakistan dressing room.”
