MCA Awards: Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw dominate

Sarfaraz Khan smashed 162 runs against Tamil Nadu in Mumbai's latest Ranji Trophy match this season.

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) held its annual award function on Friday (January 6) at MCA Club BKC in Mumbai. Prolific Mumbai batters Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw dominated the ceremony with combined 14 awards. Khan won five awards, including Late Shri SV Rajadyakhsa Trophy for the most runs in Ranji Trophy 2019-20 and 2021-22.

The 25-year-old batter has been a force to reckon with for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy for the last two seasons. He scored 928 runs in the 2019-20 season and smashed 982 runs in the last season. He started the 2022-23 season with just five runs against Andhra but smashed 126* against Hyderabad, 75 & 20 against Saurashtra, and 162 & 15* against Tamil Nadu in Mumbai's latest Ranji Trophy match.

His latest 162-run knock against Tamil Nadu was his 12th first-class hundred from just 35 matches. He has scorSd 3352 runs from 35 first-class matches at an amazing average of 79.80. On Friday, Sarfaraz won the special award for the fastest century in 2021-22, Late Shri SV Rajadyakhsa Trophy for the highest number of runs in 2021-22 & 2019-20, Dattu Phadkar award for the Ranji Cricketer of the Year 2019-20 & 2021-22, amongst others. 

Prithvi Shaw wins nine MCA awards

Shaw also grabbed the nine awards at MCA annual event and shared a picture with trophies. “I just want people to feel like they can achieve something great in their lives. We all go through rough times. You’ve got to believe in yourself. And if you believe, you will achieve it,” Prithvi wrote on his Instagram post.

The experienced Mumbai pacer Dhawal Kulkarni also managed to win seven awards and posted a picture of himself with trophies on his Instagram page.
