Melbourne Stars skipper Adam Zampa requests trade to cross-town rivals Melbourne Renegades
The 30-year-old spinner led the Stars in a rather forgettable season in BBL 12.
Adam Zampa, skipper of the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise- Melbourne Stars, has requested a trade to cross-town rivals Melbourne Renegades for the next season. The 30-year-old spinner led the Stars in a rather forgettable season as the side concluded its campaign standing last on the points table with just three wins in their 14 outings of the BBL 12.
Following a dismal run in the season, Zampa has requested a switch to the red side of Melbourne for the next season. However, it is understood that the spinner has a contract that keeps him with the franchise until the 14th edition of the top-tier league. Adding to this, no trades can formally be processed during Cricket Australia’s (CA) contracting embargo period which came into effect at the beginning of the BBL final.
Despite this, the cross-town rivals have exchanged ‘non-binding’ correspondence which could see the likes of Zampa joining the Renegades while Sam Harper dons the Stars outfit. However, this move will only be made possible once the trade period opens for next season.
General Manager of the Stars, Blair Crouch confirmed the possibility of a trade and added that the side could also target several ‘quality players’ once the window re-opens.
“This trade would allow us to target several other quality players, and we look forward to making a number of announcements regarding new signings once the contracting window re-opens,” read the official statement by Blair Crouch on Melbourne Stars’ official website.
Aaron Finch re-signs with Melbourne Renegades
Meanwhile, Aaron Finch relished a successful tournament with the Renegades this season and has decided to extend his stay with the BBL side. Finch has agreed to a new two-year deal, which will see him featuring until the 14th season of the league.
The 36-year-old on Monday, February 6, called time on his international career after making 254 appearances across all three formats, which includes 19 centuries to his name. In this season of the BBL, he amassed 428 runs including four half-centuries and finished fourth among the list of top run-getters.
