Mumbai Indians crossed swords with Kolkata Knight Riders in Match 22 in the ongoing Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Suryakumar Yadav was appointed as the stand-in captain as Rohit Sharma suffered a stomach bug.

Suryakumar called it right at the toss and put the Nitish Rana-led side to bat first. Kolkata Knight Riders posted 185/6 in their 20 overs.

But Yadav was been fined INR 12 lakh under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses after Mumbai maintained a slow over-rate.

During the KKR chase, KKR skipper Nitish Rana was fined 25 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct after an on-field scuffle with Hrithik Shokeen. Notably, Mumbai Indians spinner was fined 10 percent of his match fee.

Nitish Rana and Hrithik Shokeen admitted to the Level 1 offense under Article 2.21 and Article 2.5 under IPL's Code of Conduct.

Venkatesh Iyer's majestic ton in vain as Mumbai bag two points

After Narayan Jagadeesan was dismissed for a duck, Venkatesh Iyer walked in at number three. The Indore-born took charge to the Mumbai bowlers from the get-go and put on a batting masterclass at the Wankhede Stadium.  He scored 104 from 51 deliveries, and it up the 'City of Dreams' to ease Kolkata past 180.

Rohit Sharma, suffering from a bad stomach, opted to open the batting for Mumbai and came in as an Impact Player. Sharma, with Ishan Kishan, set the stage on fire as the duo notched up 65 runs in 4.5 overs before Rohit was dismissed.

Suryakumar Yadav, who was running low on confidence, finally showed his class and steadied the Mumbai ship with a 25-ball 43. Tilak Varma chipped in with 30 before Cameron Green and Tim David sealed the deal for Mumbai Indians with 14 balls to spare.
