'Missed two or three balls under pressure' - Prithvi Shaw recalls meeting Sachin Tendulkar for first time
“I came to know that Sachin sir also plays in MIG (Middle Income Group Ground)," said Shaw.
Prithvi Shaw was a rising talent in Indian cricket at one stage. The cricketer quickly rose to fame and played some games for the Indian cricket team at a very early age. But his little slump in form and fitness issues have kept the youngster away from the Indian set-up for quite a while now. He last played for India in July 2021, which was a T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Subsequently, the right-handed batter was seen representing Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. His talent was never a question as he once hit five boundaries in an over against Shivam Mavi in the league. But ahead of IPL 2025, he was not picked in the auction and went unsold. But the 25-year-old, who was hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar early in his career, revealed the first time he came close to meeting the legend.

“I came to know that Sachin sir also plays in MIG (Middle Income Group Ground) and the club has a great reputation. Then I came to that club and started practicing. Then I saw Sachin sir playing for the first time. I saw him in person for the first time. I saw from distance, obviously he was practicing on the main wicket then he went then at that time I did not take photo because there were many people. At that time my age was around 9. And then the next time I was batting, we were batting on the middle wicket, then Jagdish sir requested Sachin sir to watch me bat once,” said Shaw on Focused Indian YouTube channel.
“Sachin sir was standing on the first floor of MIG Club, he was watching. I saw that sir was watching. Now what happened under that pressure, I missed two or three balls. Till then I was batting fine. Now when Sachin Sir was standing, my eyes were higher than the ball, the eyes were not even on the ball, then it came down, then I played a little better, then there was a little conversation with the next player,” he added.
Speaking of Delhi Capitals, the franchise also released Rishabh Pant ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions. Inversely, they procured the services of star India wicketkeeper-batter, KL Rahul for INR 14 crore. On the other hand, Pant joined Lucknow Super Giants, the former team of Rahul, in an all-time IPL record auction price of INR 27 crore.
