‘Mohammed Shami will take huge learning from this’ - Sanjay Bangar on veteran pacer dismissing Michael Bracewell
Shami returned with magnificent figures of 3/18 in his six overs against New Zealand in the 2nd ODI.
Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar believes veteran pacer Mohammed Shami will take learning from his dismissal of New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell in the series-clinching win in the second ODI in Raipur.
Courtesy of a majestic bowling performance by Shami, who returned magnificent figures of 3/18 in his six overs, India restricted the visitors for mere 108 runs. In the midst of the Kiwis' batting innings, the seasoned pacer went over the wicket to dismiss Bracewell, something he typically does not do to left-handers. Bangar opined on the dismissal that Shami would take a lesson and may apply this going forward in the upcoming games.
“You are required to do something different. Mohammed Shami will probably take a huge learning from this. We might see him doing this going forward as well. When the right-arm bowler comes over the wicket to a left-handed batter, an angle and a slight blind spot are created,” told Bangar during a discussion on Star Sports.
“You need to exploit that, and he showed a demonstration of that in a brilliant fashion. Mohammed Shami will have to mix this, around the wicket and over the wicket angle to get better success and to get earlier dismissals,” added Bangar.
India clinch ODI series against New Zealand
The dominating performance with the ball handed the Men in Blue a massive edge in the contest, upon which the batting unit concluded the chase in under 21 overs of the second innings. Adding to this, the eight-wicket win also created some changes in the Men's ODI team rankings as Kiwis’ loss to India helped England topple New Zealand to be the No.1 side.
The BlackCaps now sit at the second spot with 113 rating points and 3166 overall points whereas England sit at top of the rankings with 3,400 overall points. Despite having 4,847 points and rating of 113, India make it to the third place owing to have played 13 more matches than the current No. 1 side. Interestingly, all the top-three teams in the latest ODI rankings hold a rating of 113.
