MS Dhoni visits Deori Maa Temple in Ranchi ahead of IPL 2024

Former India captain MS Dhoni visited the sacred Deori Maa temple in Ranchi on Tuesday, February 06. Notably, the 42-year-old has been enjoying his time off the field ever since he retired from international cricket in 2020 and has made several public appearances in his hometown in recent times.

The wicketkeeper batter visited the temple swarmed by his fans and even humbly posed for selfies. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain is expected to play his last season in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and hence decided to take divine blessings ahead of the tournament.

Dhoni led CSK to their record-levelling fifth IPL title in 2023 as they beat defending champions Gujarat Titans in a thrilling final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The ‘Captain Cool’ battled through a knee injury throughout the season and was seen at his vintage best as he took on the bowlers right from the word go. Dhoni scored 104 runs from 12 innings in the 2023 edition batting at a strike rate of 182.45 smashing three fours and ten gigantic sixes.

With the gloves, he inflicted the third most dismissals in the season (10) which included seven catches and three stumpings from 16 innings. Dhoni also ranks at the seventh spot in the list of all-time run scorers in IPL history with 5082 runs to his name from 218 innings at an average of 38.79 and a strike rate of 135.91 with 24 half-centuries to his name.

He further has the fourth most sixes to his name in the history of the tournament with 239 maximums to his name. The 2023 edition was expected to be the last season for the ‘Captain Cool’ as fans thronged to the stadium all over India to see their beloved ‘Thala’ in action.

However, at the post-match presentation in the final, Dhoni revealed that he would be happy to return for next season as well, as a return gift for his fans who’ve showered him with immense love all over the country.
