Mayank Yadav debuted for India with the first T20I against Bangladesh on October 6. The pacer was coming out of injury rehabilitation and was back to competitive cricket after over five months. He bowled the full quota of four overs and conceded 21 runs with a sole wicket to his name. The pacer garnered the spotlight for his sheer pace during IPL 2024, playing for Lucknow Super Giants.

But the right-arm pacer did not just rely on his pace rather varied it in the first T20I. In the second T20I, he picked one wicket conceding 30 runs. Former Bangladesh opener, Tamim Iqbal, highlighted that Mayank has not clicked 150 kmph in the series. The veteran’s comment was duly countered by former India spinner, Murali Kartik, who said that neither Bangladesh bowlers have done so.

"Mayank Yadav has not touched 150 in this series," said Tamim during commentary.

"Neither has Bangladesh," Kartik replied.

I think Akash Deep should be in Australia: RP Singh

Mayank was in marauding form for LSG in IPL 2024 as the 22-year-old clicked 156 kmph in one of the league games. His injury in the middle of the tournament meant that the youngster was out of the fray but he eventually made a comeback with his national debut. He was handed over his debut cap by Murali Kartik.

Meanqhile, former India bowler RP Singh feels that Mayank is in a "developing phase" currently. He backed pacer Akash Deep to travel to Australia for the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

"I think Akash Deep should be in Australia. His bowling style suits the Australian conditions more. Mayank Yadav has pace and pace is one of the aspects of fast bowling. There are more aspects to it. He needs to slowly develop more variations and skills. Mayank is in the developing phase," said RP Singh speaking to Jio Cinema.

"In a Test match, players patience and skill are tested. There is time for it. A lot of domestic cricket has to be played that Akash Deep and Mohammed Shami have played. Mayank is yet to enter the frame that both players have come through. I think Akash Deep is a better choice for the Australia series," he added.
