'My work is to select from players available for selection' - PCB chief selector breaks silence on Mohammad Amir's T20 WC exclusion
PCB chief selector has made it clear that since Mohammad Amir is retired and has not made himself available for selection, he would not play in his tenure.
Pakistan chief selector Muhammad Wasim has made it clear that senior pacer Mohammad Amir has absolutely no chances of making a comeback to the national team in his tenure. Giving further clarification regarding the same, Wasim has said that since the left-arm speedster himself has taken retirement from international cricket, he cannot even be considered in the first place.
Amir had announced his international retirement with immediate effect back in December 2020. He had accused the then team management comprising head coach Misbah-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis of ill-treating him and wowed that he will only return once that management is out of power.
Mohammad Amir never made himself available in my tenure: Muhammad Wasim
“My work is to select from players who are available for selection. Unfortunately, Mohammad Amir never made himself available in my tenure. He has taken retirement, so I never talked about him. When he is not available, what can I say. The rest, who are available, we do talk about them and consider them. But there is no such policy,” Wasim said on Pakistan journalist Hafiz Muhammad Imran's channel.
It has been a year since the new management has come to power in Pakistan cricket, but Mohammad Amir has never approached the PCB for his selection process even though he makes himself available to participate in franchise cricket leagues.
The southpaw had last represented Pakistan in an away T20I series against England in August 2020. Even though he has not expressed any interest in playing for the Men in Green again, he had posted a cryptic tweet when Pakistan's T20 World Cup 2022 squad was announced last month and seemingly took a dig at the chief selector Muhammad Wasim.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Amir was a part of the Jamaica Tallawahs' victorious CPL 2022 campaign. He finished the tournament with 16 scalps to his name in 11 innings averaging 15.6 and an economy of 6.43.
