New Zealand continued their dominance at the top of the points table in the World Test Championship (WTC) for the 2023-2025 cycle with a historic series win in their own backyard against South Africa.
The Kiwis comprehensively defeated a second-string South African side in the first Test of their two-match series by 281 runs and climbed to the top of the WTC points table, displacing defending champions Australia. On Friday, February 16, the Blackcaps defeated South Africa in the second Test by seven wickets to complete a series sweep. This was also their first Test series win against the Proteas in 92 years.
New Zealand currently have three wins and a solitary loss that came against Bangladesh. They boast of a point percentage of 75 and have 36 points to their name. Meanwhile, Australia are No. 2 on the points table. They won six matches and lost three out of the 10 they played. Two out of those losses came against England in the Ashes, while one was against the West Indies in last month's epic Gabba Test. The Pat Cummins-led side has a point percentage of 55.00 and 66 points in their kitty.
India won the second Test against England and moved up to No. 2 on February 5. The third Test began on February 15 and is currently ongoing. New Zealand's series win has taken India down to No. 3 on the points table but a win for the Asian giants in the third Test could change things. Rohit Sharma and Co. have played six matches so far, managing three wins, two losses, and a draw. The point percentage stands at 52.77 with 38 points.
