‘Nice of Litton for calling me back after the run-out’ – Ish Sodhi appreciates Bangladesh captain's heartwarming gesture
Sodhi expressed his appreciation for Das' sportsmanship in reinstating him after his bails were dislodged at the non-striker's end.
New Zealand triumphed over Bangladesh by a commanding 86-run margin, propelling themselves to a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The star of the showdown, Kiwi spinner Ish Sodhi, proved his worth with a remarkable six-wicket haul that paved the way for New Zealand's victory at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur. Reflecting on the gripping encounter, Sodhi expressed his gratitude to Bangladesh's skipper, Litton Das, for displaying a sportsman's spirit that transcended the boundaries of competition.
The 30-year-old's bails were dislodged at the non-striker's end by the fiery pacer Hasan Mahmud. Yet, in an astonishing turn of events, Das chose to withdraw his appeal, effectively rescinding the right-arm-bowler's dismissal and allowing him to resume his innings. The heartwarming reunion between Sodhi and Mahmud was a testament to the camaraderie that cricket fosters. Speaking of the same he said,
"Really good day. Historically, we haven't done well here, and hence it is nice to get the win. Nice of Litton for calling me back after the run-out," remarked a gracious Sodhi, clearly appreciative of the magnanimous gesture that breathed life back into his innings, as quoted by India Today.
Sodhi realizes the impact of win over Bangladesh in the sub-continent
For New Zealand, conquering the challenges of Bangladesh holds particular significance, given their historical struggles in subcontinental conditions that mirror those awaiting teams at the upcoming World Cup in India. The Ludhiana-born acknowledged the gravity of their triumph, acknowledging that the win has injected much-needed momentum into their campaign.
“That was the whole reason we decided to bat first as the ball would spin more in the second innings, even Ravindra and McConchie got the ball to spin. Playing ODI cricket leading into the WC is awesome, but this is a difficult place to play, and to walk away with a win is awesome,” he added.
