Nitish Kumar Reddy saved India from sinking further in the ongoing fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday, December 28. On Day 3 of the Test, Nitish walked into bat after Rishabh Pant departed and built a crucial 127-run stand with Washington Sundar for the eighth wicket.

The partnership helped India to avoid the follow on and subsequently, the all-rounder smashed his maiden Test ton. He did it in presence of his father and a crowd of over 78,000 spectators at the G. Former India cricketer, Sunil Gavaskar heaped praises on the 21-year-old and congratulated him on his maiden century. However, he also advised the young talent to not take Indian cricket for granted.

“This is the first Test hundred and he is going to score many more in the near future. I am expecting to see him among the runs in the future. He is a star of Indian cricket,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

“However, he will have to remember the sacrifices made by his father and other members of the family. Nitish is here because of Indian cricket, and he will have to make sure that he doesn’t take Indian cricket for granted. If he stays true to himself, a successful career lies ahead of him,” he added.

With the help of Nitish’s ton, India managed to reduce the deficit substantially. They ended Day 3 on 358/9 with Nitish remaining unbeaten on 105 off 176. He is being assisted by Mohammed Siraj who will commence Day 4 with him on two runs off seven balls. India still trail by 116 runs and the team will welcome whatever Nitish and Siraj have in their capacity.
