With the Asia Cup 2023 well underway, it is clear that the Indian team is nowhere near its best. Led by Rohit Sharma, the side put in subpar performances against Pakistan in their first game of the tournament and followed it up with another subpar showing against Nepal.

However, with the game against Pakistan abandoned and India winning against Nepal, the side managed to qualify for the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2023. However, despite the qualification, skipper Rohit Sharma came forward to opine that there is still a lot to improve for the side in the tournament.

"We haven't been at our best, but a few guys are coming out after months out of the game. Once we move ahead in the Super Fours, there's no room for complacency, first game, under pressure, Hardik and Ishan got us into a good position. Today our bowling was okay, but the fielding was below par," Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation after the win against Nepal.

In the back of our mind, we knew what our 15 would look like: Sharma

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma also was asked about India’s World Cup squad getting picked on the basis of their Asia Cup performances. Speaking over the same, the skipper opined that every player knew before arriving in Sri Lanka what the World Cup squad is gonna look like. The veteran opener stated that only one or two spots for India’s World Cup squad are uncertain.

"When we came here, in the back of our mind we knew what our (World Cup) 15 would look like, except maybe one or two spots,” Rohit said.

Team India begin their World Cup campaign on October 8. They will be taking on Australia at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Soon after, they will clash against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14. Facing off against two big teams early on in the World Cup, India will look to win the games to gain momentum early.
