'Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home' - Adam Gilchrist previews Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25

Legendary wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist hopes Australia will be able to show the world that they are still a dominant force in home conditions when India come to play the marquee Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.

Australia have failed to win the BGT since 2014/15. India reclaimed the coveted title in 2017 and have kept a stranglehold on it with excellent performances home and away against the Aussies. India have managed to win the last two Test series they played on Australian soil. They beat the Aussies in their backyard by 2-1 margins in 2018/19 and 2020/21. Rohit Sharma and Co. will hope to grab a hat-trick of series wins when they face Pat Cummins' side in the highly-anticipated five-match series, starting later this year in November.

Former Australian cricketer Gilchrist warned Cummins and Co. about India's ability to win away from home. The 52-year-old expects the impending BGT to be a closely-contested affair.

"Onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India know how to go away and win overseas," said Gilchrist while speaking to The Times of India

"Naturally, I'm going to say Australia, hope they get there. But it's too close to call. It will be a close tussle," the cricketer-turned-commentator added.

Australia will be confident about their chances of producing a positive result after getting the better of India in the World Test Championship (WTC) final last year in England. India are going through a transition phase as far as their batting line-up is concerned. The selectors have given chances to youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan in recent times and they have fared well. However, facing the formidable troika of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood in Australian conditions will be a major challenge. Cricket enthusiasts can expect a riveting contest when two of the top teams in Test cricket collide with the prestigious BGT on the line.
