'Our team has the belief from start to bat well' - Yash Thakur opens up after LSG's thunderous show against PBKS in Mohali
LSG defeated PBKS by 56 runs on April 28 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Cricket Stadium.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) by 56 runs in the 38th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Friday, April 28 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Cricket Stadium. After being invited to bat first, LSG set a mammoth 258-run target for the hosts, thanks to fifties from Kyle Mayers and Marcus Stoinis. Notably, this was the second-highest total in the history of the cash-rich league.
After LSG scored the highest total of the ongoing IPL season, pacer Yash Thakur reckoned that the team had the confidence and belief to post a huge total from the start of the game. He did, however, acknowledge that he wasn't expecting the team to score one of the biggest totals in the IPL.
"We have to adjust our shots according to the pitches provided in Lucknow and outside. Our team has the belief from the start to bat well, but I did not think that we would hit one of the highest totals in the Indian Premier League. We feel that we have been playing well," Thakur said in the post-match press conference as quoted by India Today.
We played according to the pitch: Yash Thakur
While talking about the pitch, Thakur stated that pitches cannot be expected to be the same everywhere. He pointed out that the pitch at Lucknow Stadium wasn't easy to bat on. According to the 24-year-old pacer, the two middle-order batters decided what the best score on the pitch was and played accordingly.
"We cannot get the same conditions everywhere. We played according to the pitch. In Lucknow, the pitch is not easy to bat on. The two players in the middle order decided what the best score was on the pitch and they played like that," Thakur added.
Thakur was crucial in defending LSG's massive total against Punjab. He took four wickets, dismissing Sikandar Raza, Jitesh Sharma, Shahrukh Khan, and Rahul Chahar. Besides Thakur, Naveen-ul-Haq grabbed three wickets, Ravi Bishnoi picked two, and Stoinis one as LSG bundled out PBKS for 201 runs with one ball to spare.
