Pakistan's cricketers effort to form their representative organisation ends in futility
A top official from the International Federation of Cricketers' Associations (FICA) also stated that they’re ready to extend their complete support if cricketers can establish an association.
Cricketers in Pakistan have failed to form a representative organization for them time and again despite numerous efforts. Recently, a top official from the International Federation of Cricketers' Associations (FICA) also stated that they’re ready to extend their complete support if cricketers can establish an association. However, a recent effort in this regard also ended in futility.
There have been also reports of some of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise officials and a former PCB official’s readiness to take up top positions but their demand for a 30% share in contracts led to the matter not progressing. They had even contacted FICA, where a positive response was received.
According to Cricket Pakistan, a former Test captain was providing the cricketers with advice in this regard but the deal didn’t come to fruition. Currently, the players ’ agents are safeguarding their interests and are also conducting their central contract negotiations.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has neither supported nor opposed players’ associations in the past but a lack of harmony among the players themselves has served as a roadblock.
One anonymous cricketer suggested the formation of a representative organization for players in Pakistan, affiliated with FICA. But there are concerns that if such an organization is formed, it may lead to conflicts with the PCB. However, the efforts will continue with the hope of some success in the future.
