Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has provided a positive update on Shaheen Afridi's injury which occurred during the T20 World Cup 2022 final clash against England at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday (November 13). The left-arm pacer landed uncomfortably while taking Harry Brook's catch at long-off and then left the field after bowling only one delivery of his third over.
But now PCB, in its official statement, has cleared that the player was not able to continue his spell due to a knee discomfort and will soon return to the game. Shaheen walked off "due to a forced knee flexion whilst landing," according to PCB’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Najeebullah Soomro, and Australian knee specialist, Dr Peter D’Alessandro.
The scan was conducted on Monday morning prior to the team's departure from Melbourne to Pakistan. The 22-year-old left-arm pacer will undergo rehabilitation and conditioning programme to strengthen his knee at National High Performance Centre back in Pakistan.

Shaheen's injury dearly cost Pakistan a trophy as England batters easily chased the 138-run target with five wickets and six balls remaining. Iftikhar Ahmed bowled Shaheen's remaining five balls and conceded crucial 13 runs when England needed 41 runs off 29 balls.
This proved a big turning point in the game as England were struggling for big shots and Pakistani bowlers were gripping their control in the middle overs. Ben Stokes smashed his first-ever half-century in T20I cricket to finish the game but Pakistani bowlers kept the game alive till Shaheen's departure.
Shaheen struggled for wickets in the first few games but managed to turn the fortune in the crucial games. He took three against South Africa in a must-win game and four against Bangladesh in Pakistan's last Super 12 group-stage game. He managed to get two more in the semi-final clash against New Zealand and a big wicket of Alex Hales while conceding just 13 runs from his brief spell against England in the final.
