‘Plan was to take the game deep’ - Prabhsimran Singh reveals batting strategy following masterclass against DC

Punjab Kings' (PBKS) flamboyant opener Prabhsimran Singh revealed his mindset during his blazing knock against Delhi Capitals (DC). Notably, Punjab brushed aside David Warner’s Delhi by 31 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, May 13.

During the first innings, Punjab dealt with blows at regular intervals as they were reduced to 45/3 in under seven overs. However, it was opener Prabhsimran, who kept the scoreboard ticking at the beginning, and decided to shift gears to inject momentum towards the latter stages of the match. 

The 22-year-old wicketkeeper-batter hammered six sixes and 10 boundaries to notch up his century and concluded with 103 runs off 65 balls. Following the win, Prabhsimran revealed that his strategy was to take the game deep after the early fall of wickets.

“We lost a few wickets at the top, so the plan was to take the game a little deep. I have been with the team for a long time and when you get back-to-back opportunities you got to grab it. The wicket was slightly tough at the start and the plan was to build some partnership and then target a few bowlers,” Prabhsimran told in the post-match presentation.

“I also speak to senior players who keep telling me to make sure that I take the game deep and make it big when I get a start. Really thankful to the management for the opportunities,” he added.

In his 12 appearances thus far, Prabhsimran has collected 334 runs at an average of 27.83 which includes one ton and as many fifties. Meanwhile, Punjab are placed sixth in the IPL Points Table with 12 points in 12 games and will need to obtain favourable results in their remaining fixtures to obtain a spot in the playoffs.

Prabhsimran's blistering knock earned him the Player of the Match award in Punjab’s resounding win against the Capitals. In the process, DC were the first team in the IPL 2023 to be eliminated and will play for pride in the remainder of their campaign.
