Royal Challengers Bengaluru failed to defend their title successfully as they finished fourth in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 despite having started the third season strongly with two comprehensive wins. However, five consecutive defeats in the middle of the tournament crushed their hopes of reaching the playoffs.

On Tuesday, March 11, the Smriti Mandhana-led side defeated Mumbai Indians by 11 runs to avoid finishing at the bottom of the table. This win also helped Bengaluru stop arch-rivals Mumbai from booking a direct ticket to the summit clash.

After the riveting encounter on Tuesday, Bengaluru's experienced all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who scored an unbeaten 49 and bagged two wickets, rued some narrow defeats in the middle phase of the tournament.

"It has been a tricky season for us. We started with some really strong wins and ended on a high note with another victory tonight. But in between, we lost some close games and had a few performances that weren’t up to our standards, which is a bit disappointing. That said, it has been an incredibly enjoyable season in an amazing competition," Perry said while speaking on JioHotstar.

"Playing for RCB has been a fantastic experience, especially because of the fans. The support we receive, particularly in Bengaluru, has been incredible, but it has been equally enjoyable to see fans turning up for us across different venues. It’s hard to pick a favorite venue, but Chinnaswamy Stadium is special for us. However, the matches in Baroda at the start of the tournament were brilliant, and playing in Mumbai and Lucknow also added great variety. Moving the competition across multiple venues has been a fantastic experience, and I hope fans have enjoyed coming out to watch the matches," she added.

The Royal Challengers finished just above UP Warriorz on the points table. Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals made it to the finals and they will face the winner of the Eliminator between Mumbai and Gujarat Giants on Saturday, March 15.
