Rangpur Riders appoint Mickey Arthur as new head coach
Rangpur will play in the Global Super League, which will begin on November 26.
Popular franchise Rangpur Riders have appointed Mickey Arthur as their new head coach. The 56-year-old was the head coach of the Pakistan team in the ODI World Cup but was sacked soon after that. Apart from that, he also coached the South Africa and Sri Lanka national teams previously. Meanwhile, he will be joining the Rangpur squad soon as the franchise will take part in the Global Super League, which is slated to begin on November 26.
Shanian Taneem, the team director of Rangpur has confirmed the development and added that the local players are excited to play under his guidance. He added that the management was in touch with him for the past week and the former South Africa international has been very active and has helped them in the last few days. He also revealed that it is a one-year deal.
“We have signed Mickey Arthur for the GSL and BPL this year. It is a one-year deal. He will take care of us for these two tournaments this year. He is a great addition to our side. The local players are really excited to be coached by him. We have been in touch with Mickey for the last seven to eight days to build the squad for GSL and BPL. He is very active, always gladly helping us,” Taneem was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Taneem added that Arthur is perfect for Rangpur’s culture and can help Bangladesh cricketers to a great extent. He also believes that Arthur’s experience will be extremely valuable to the local players.

“I think he is perfect for Rangpur Riders' culture. He is a very friendly guy. He will be of great benefit for the Bangladeshi cricketers in particular. He has huge experience. He has already taken care of so many international sides like Sri Lanka, South Africa and Pakistan,” he added.
