Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Special provisions made by DDCA for audience to witness Virat Kohli in action
Kohli is set to feature for Delhi in their Ranji Trophy clash against Railways, scheduled to commence on January 30.
Ace Indian batter, Virat Kohli, is poised to make a comeback for Delhi in the 2024-25 edition of the Ranji Trophy in their clash against Railways, at the renowned Arun Jaitley Stadium, in Delhi. The final group-stage round of this season's Ranji Trophy is slated to commence on January 30. This will mark Kohli making his first appearance in India's premier domestic red-ball competition in over 12 years.
Secretary of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), Ashok Kumar Sharma, shared that a bare minimum of each spectator's Aadhar card along with its copy was required to gain access to live action. Furthermore, Sharma also added that security around the venue will be tightened for the next few days due to obvious reasons.
“The Gautam Gambhir Stand will be open for the spectators. The fans can enter from Gate No. 16 and 17. Gate No. 6 will also be open for the DDCA members and guests. We are expecting crowd of around 10,000 spectators for the first day. It’s free entry. The fans just need to bring their original copy of their Aadhar card and its photocopy as well. The arrangements for the fans have been made. It will be like any international or an IPL match,” shared Sharma while speaking to The Indian Express.
“This is not a normal Ranji Trophy match. Apna Cheeku (Kohli’s nickname) khel raha hai (our Cheeku will be playing). We have requested the Delhi Police to help us with more extra police force for the next four days. We’ll have our own private security as well,” he added.
Took the call the moment Virat made himself available for the match: Jio representative
Furthermore, a representative of JioCinema noted that the producers had taken the call to live-stream the game on their platform, much like they did in relation to the Mumbai-Jammu & Kashmir fixture in Mumbai.

“The kind of interest we had for the Mumbai vs J&K match, where Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal played was insane. With Virat Kohli playing in Delhi, we are expecting the same amount of attraction from this match. This is completely our prerogative. We took the call the moment Virat made himself available for the match,” the representative from Jio mentioned to the media house.
When asked if the DDCA were planning on felicitating the former Indian skipper before the game, Sharma added that there was no such plan for doing the same. Kohli will feature at the Arun Jaitley Stadium for the first time since February 17, 2023.
