Ranji Trophy: Yash Rathod's 'civil' knock 'lines' down MP, Vidarbha stay alive in penultimate contest

Rathod scored 141 runs in 200 deliveries in the second innings.

The Ranji Trophy has witnessed many sensational showings by the players over the course of the season. Yet another exceptional knock was seen by the fans as Vidarbha star Yash Rathod put forth a brilliant performance against Madhya Pradesh in the first semi-final of the tournament at VCA's Civil Lines Ground in Nagpur.

The middle-order batter arrived at the crease in a very tricky situation for Vidarbha in the second innings. The side found itself on a score of 137 runs with the loss of four wickets.

However, Rathod’s knock helped the side pull out of the situation. The 23-year-old scored 141 runs in 200 deliveries and showcased some exceptional striking prowess, helping his side post a total of 402 runs in the second innings of the clash. The southpaw's knock helped Vidarbha post a big total on the board and a big target for Madhya Pradesh to chase down.

Madhya Pradesh eyeing 321 for another Ranji dream

Speaking of the clash, the first innings of the game saw Vidarbha succumb to pressure under Madhya Pradesh’s relentless bowling attack. Karun Nair was the highest run scorer for his side in the first innings with 63 runs to his name, as Vidarbha scored 170 runs in the first innings.

As for Madhya Pradesh, Avesh Khan was the highest wicket taker, with four wickets to his name. Kulwant Khejroliya and Venkatesh Iyer took two wickets each, as Anubhav Agarwal and Kumar Kartikeya struck once each. 

In response, Madhya Pradesh maintained their control over the game in the first innings with the bat. Himanshu Mantri completed his century, scoring 126 runs, with Saransh Jain adding 30 runs on the board as MP scored 252 runs in the first innings.

The second innings saw Vidarbha in a state of bother once again. However, Rathod’s mammoth innings helped the side post a total of 402 runs in the second innings, giving Madhya Pradesh a target of 321 runs to chase down and win the semi-final encounter.
