India ended up triumphing against England in the recently concluded T20I series by a commanding 4-1 margin. However, the likes of wicketkeeper-batter, Sanju Samson, and T20I skipper, Suryakumar Yadav, ended up mustering only 51 and 28 runs, respectively, to their names in the five innings they featured.

Former Indian cricketer, Ravichandran Ashwin, referenced a snippet from Sachin Tendulkar's speech at the recent BCCI Naman Awards 2025, which took place in Mumbai as advice for the duo.

"Sachin Tendulkar also said during the (BCCI) awards function that, '(you must) do so many repetitions that you allow the subconscious mind to take over'. But if so much confusion comes over on the subconscious mind, then batting becomes a different ball game altogether," shared Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.

He also noted that the mode of dismissals were more important than the number of setbacks for a batter as far as 20-over cricket was concerned.

"As an experienced cricketer, I will not focus on someone failing in T20 cricket but on how is he getting out, what is his decision-making is like, I will focus on that. They are good enough players to find solutions and they will think over it," added Ashwin.

T20 cricket is (all) about failures, you are bound to fail: Ashwin

Ashwin further reasoned that both Samson and Suryakumar deserved an extended run to prove themselves in the T20I format.

"T20 cricket is (all) about failures, you are bound to fail. You will not be able to play percentage cricket. As per this, I will think (about) the player who can handle pressure and can deliver wins. Those players can be given a long rope because T20 cricket is not about consistency, it's about excitement, putting fear in the opposition," explained Ashwin.

India are all set to feature in a three-match ODI series against England, scheduled to kickstart on February 6. The 50-over leg will be followed by the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy.
