Reports: India to announce squads for Champions Trophy, England series soon
Yashasvi Jaiswal is likely to be included in the ODI series as well the Champions Trophy squad as a backup opener.
After a heartbreaking end to the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia, the next assignment for team India is the upcoming white-ball tour against England at home. The series commences with T20Is, the first of which will be held at the historic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. After four more 20-over fixtures, the teams will cross swords in three-match ODI series, with the opener to be played at Nagpur's Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Jamtha.
The team will have the crucial Champions Trophy 2025 beckoning right after the England assignment. According to RevSportz, Ajit Agarkar-led All India Men's Senior Selection Committee is expected to announce India’s squad for both the England ODI series and the Champions Trophy on January 12. The same day is also the ICC deadline to submit the squad for the Champions Trophy.
Bumrah doubtful, Jaiswal to be backup opener
Jasprit Bumrah, who suffered a back spasm in the fifth Test against Australia and missed the second innings, is likely to be rested for the T20I series, according to the same report. Bumrah may take Dubai flight for the ICC event, but his presence in ODI series is still unconfirmed. Another star pacer, Mohammed Siraj might also miss the T20I action and comeback only for the ODIs. Test opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, meanwhile, is likely to be included in the ODI series as well the Champions Trophy squad as a backup opener, while captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill will be the usual opening combination.
It was further reported that, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer will bat at No. 3 and No. 4. On the other hand, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant will be vying for a wicketkeeper’s spot in the team while Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav are expected to form the spin trio. Washington Sundar, who has found himself in the team India’s prospects, might also get back to the white-ball format.

Speaking of the pacer all-rounders, Hardik Pandya will be in the squad while Nitish Kumar Reddy, who had a memorable outing Test series against Australia, will also find his name in the Champions Trophy Squad list. It is further to be noted that India's squad for the upcoming marquee event is expected to be out on or before Sunday, January 12, which is the deadline set by the ICC, the organizing body.
