In the match against Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals’ star Jos Buttler injured his finger and may miss out in their upcoming match against Delhi Capitals. Notably, his injury required multiple stitches on his left hand's little finger due to which he didn’t come to bat in his preferred position, the opener's slot.

In his absence, spin wizard Ravichandran Ashwin was promoted up in the order but the plan didn’t quite work out as the 36-year-old was sent back to the pavilion in the fourth over of the innings during Rajasthan's chase. Jos came to bat at number three and hit a boundary and six and was looking in good touch before Nathan Ellis got the better of him in the last over of the powerplay.

Meanwhile, Buttler, who got the best catch award in the match, came to collect his cheque with a distinct white strapping on his finger. As per a report from The Times of India, he may not able to recover and play another game in just 72 hours and thus, RR management can give him rest in their upcoming contest against the David Warner-led side.

PBKS defeated RR by five runs

Courtesy of their brilliant bowling performance, Punjab Kings defeated Rajasthan Royals by five runs to win their second consecutive match of IPL 2023. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan led by example with the bat while Nathan Ellis picked up four wickets to dismantle RR’s batting unit.

However, after the match, PBKS skipper Dhawan admitted that there were some nervous moments as well, especially the way Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer were batting towards the business end of the match.

“There were some nervous moments but I was keeping my calm and the same with the bowlers. There was a lot of dew. The bowlers did a great job. I was happy with the score we put up. They bowled well and bowled very good yorkers,” Dhawan said after the match.

“Scoring 197 and then my bowlers coming and getting early wickets and keeping the pressure on and then Nathan came on and got wickets. We never let the game get out of our hands. There were some moments that were hard but I think it was a great team effort,” he added.
