Reports: KL Rahul likely to miss first two IPL 2025 matches for Delhi Capitals due to birth of his child
KL Rahul played an important cameo of 34* off 33 deliveries in the Champions Trophy final which played a huge role in helping the Men in Blue lift the title.
The Champions Trophy 2025 has ended with a positive result for India as they won the title after defeating New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, March 9. All eyes will now be on the Indian Premier League (IPL) which will begin on March 22.
One of the Champions Trophy heroes KL Rahul, who was bought by the Delhi Capitals for INR 14 crore, is one of the potential leadership choices for the team. However, according to reports Rahul could be missing the first two games of the tournament due to the birth of his first child and will choose to be with his wife Athiya Shetty during that time.
The 32-year-old batter played an important cameo of 34* off 33 deliveries in the final. The other Champions Trophy heroes who will be part of his DC squad will be India's upcoming star all-rounder and T20I vice-captain Axar Patel and wrist-spinning superstar Kuldeep Yadav who also made vital contributions during the match.
KL Rahul in the IPL
This will be the fifth franchise KL Rahul will be playing for in the IPL. He made his IPL debut playing for RCB in 2013 and followed it up with turning up for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 and 2015. He got back to the RCB setup in 2016. The Karnataka player then played for the Punjab Kings from 2018 to 2021 and the Lucknow SuperGiants from 2022 to 2024.
Rahul has made it to the playoffs four times but has failed to win the title and was surprisingly released by LSG despite being their leading run scorer in 2024. He has played 132 matches in the tournament and has scored 4683 at an average of 45.46 and has a strike rate of 134.60.
