Reports: Mohammed Shami expected to make international comeback in England series
Shami has not featured for India since the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
Veteran India pacer Mohammed Shami is expected to make a comeback in the Indian team after a long hiatus. Shami has not featured for India since the ODI World Cup final in 2023, and despite having played in domestic cricket since then, the star pacer is yet to feature for India.
However, according to the latest reports, Shami is expected to make his comeback to the national team in the upcoming white-ball series against England. According to the report, the NCA is keeping a close eye on Shami’s progress. After the surgery done on him, Shami developed a minor swelling in the knee, which in turn ruled him out of action for the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Currently, Shami is part of Bengal’s Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign and will feature for the side against Haryana in their upcoming game. Furthermore, members from the BCCI’s selection committee are expected to attend the Vijay Hazare clash that Shami will feature in.
India to take on England across five T20Is, three ODIs
Speaking of the upcoming series between India and England, both sides will lock horns across five T20I matches and will finish it off with three ODIs. The five T20Is will be held on January 22, 25, 28, 31, and February 2, respectively. The clashes will be held in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai, respectively.

With Shami expected to make a comeback, there have been discussions over Jasprit Bumrah’s inclusion as well. The ace pacer is currently awaiting his reports from the NCA, as he sustained a back injury in the final Test of the recently concluded BGT 2024-25. Besides, Akash Deep is also ruled out for a month, which would see Team India act cautiously when it comes to their fast bowling unit.
