Star Indian batter Shubman Gill's participation in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Adelaide remains uncertain. The right-handed batter is recovering from a fractured left thumb, which kept him out of the first Test and could potentially sideline him for an extended period.

The injury occurred during a match simulation against India 'A' in Perth, where Gill sustained the fracture while attempting to claim a catch. Medical specialists have advised the young batter to take a 10-14 day rest.

Sources close to the team mentioned that even after the initial healing period, Gill will require substantial match practice before being considered for selection. The team has already been forced to reshuffle its batting order following Gill's absence and Rohit Sharma's earlier unavailability.

Won't be surprised if he misses two to three Test matches: Jatin Paranjape

In the series opener, Devdutt Padikkal stepped in, scoring 0 and 25 in the two innings during India's historic 295-run win. Former India selector Jatin Paranjape pointed out that Gill could miss two to three Test matches due to the nature of his thumb injury.

"I know from past experience that finger injuries, especially like the one he has suffered to the thumb take two to four weeks to heal, so don't be surprised if he misses two to three Test matches," Paranjape had said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

The upcoming two-day practice match against the Prime Minister's XI, scheduled from November 30 to December 1, will be a crucial preparation for the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. However, Gill is almost certain to miss this warm-up clash.

One potential solution being discussed is repositioning KL Rahul at No. 3, with Rohit returning to open the innings. Since making his debut during India's memorable tour of Australia four years ago. where Gill played a crucial role in the historic Gabba Test, the youngster has established himself as a key all-format player.
