'Right foot is getting a little sore' - Varun Chakaravarthy on injury during first innings of Champions Trophy final
Chakaravarthy suffers the blow while stopping a delivery which was struck right back at him.
The first innings of the Champions Trophy final ended with New Zealand putting 251-7 on the board after 50 overs. Though it was a commendable effort from the Kiwi batters, the Indian spinner's contribution were equally praiseworthy if not more. India's Varun Chakravarthy was the best person with the ball today, as he finished with figures of 2 for 45 in his ten overs.
For the unversed, there was a moment in the match where he hurt his foot while trying to stop a delivery that was hit straight back at him. The cricketer seemed to be in pain; and was seen limping for a moment after facing a certain discomfort in his right foot. Nonetheless, he still went on to finish his spell.
Addressing the official mid-innings' presentation, he opened up on his foot injury as well while talking about the game and how the Dubai wicket responded in the first innings of the grand finale.
“It was a good wicket compared to the last wicket. It was not turning much. All I could do was stick it into the stump line and wait for the batter to make some mistake. I like bowling in the death and the powerplay; it is more challenging and gives me more opportunity to pick wickets. I like talking to Kuldeep, even Jaddu bhai and Axar (Patel). I am pretty new to this setup and am looking to build some nice bonds. It (the right foot) is a little sore. It is a gettable score if we bat well initially,” Chakravarthy said.
