Rishabh Pant not in need of second surgery
Rishabh Pant was in a car accident back in December 2022, which has rendered out of contention from playing for almost half a year now.
Star Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has been out of contention to play for quite some time now. The 25-year-old was in a car accident in December 2022, which saw him sustain major injuries and rule him out of playing for an entire year.
However, Pant has made great strides to get back on the pitch in recent months, and he was also seen walking without crutches. Furthermore, Pant has reportedly been treated with even more good news, as he would not have to undergo another surgery, which was originally the plan.
Times of India reported that the medical officials overseeing the 25-year-old are happy with the progress he has made thus far. He sustained some major injuries from the accident, and as the doctors who kept him under watch ruled out another surgery, it could mean the star wicketkeeper is on the road to making a full recovery.
Pant had surgery on his medial collateral ligament (MCL), and he also had some repairs on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). However, it was the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) that posed problems for the player. He was informed that a second surgery on the PCL could be required, but it has reportedly been ruled out now.
Furthermore, seeing his brilliant progress to full recovery, a BCCI official opined that the 25-year-old’s recovery has been going far better than expected, and his comeback to the field could come very soon as well.
"Let's make it clear that Pant never had multiple surgeries, as was speculated. There was much anxiety over another surgery. He was monitored every fortnight. Fortunately, his progress has been better than expected. This is a big boost for him. It could mean his comeback can happen a lot earlier than what was first expected,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI.
"He is in good spirits. He can now walk considerably longer without a crutch. The focus of his rehab is now largely on strengthening. He should be in the back-to-play phase training soon," they added.
